I am running for re-election to the Dunn County Board of Supervisors on April 2, 2024.

Below you can find out more about my story and why I am running, my priorities and values, and some of my accomplishments from my first term in office.

My story and why I am called to public service

My husband and I moved to Menomonie with our two young children in 2012 to work as college professors. I teach philosophy and he teaches computer science.

My interest in local politics was sparked during the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, where I saw people’s health and well being get sacrificed for economic reasons and disabled people further marginalized and excluded from public life. As I learned more about the specific issues related to pandemic policy, I began to see the bigger picture of how the needs of people who are most vulnerable in our community, like people with disabilities, older adults, and people experiencing poverty, are not being served by our local government structures. But I also saw how local government leaders have the power to immediately impact the lives of people for the better through policies related to housing, clean water and other natural resources, health and infrastructure. There is so much opportunity for good, but we need strong leaders to step up and make it happen. I want to be a part of that.

I have the optimistic belief that it is possible for the government to work in the best interest of the people, but that in order for this to happen, we need leadership from grassroots community members who share this belief and are committed to the work. For too long, our government has been manipulated by those with financial resources to create policy that favors their interests, often at the expense of those with the least power. It doesn't have to be this way and I am committed to working with others who have a similar vision.

Outside of politics and teaching, I have been an elected member of the leadership team for my local union since 2021. I am an active member of the Menomonie Theater Guild, having shared my time and talent with the organization by creating the lighting for many community shows since 2019. In my free time I enjoy improving the wildlife habitat on my property using sustainable practices that support the local ecosystem.
